Troubleshooting: Flip And Scratch Features Aren't Working
If your players are getting involved in Instant Win games, in the style of flip and scratch cards, that’s a great sign! Instant Wins are such a good way to promote consistent engagement and, of course, income.
But if they’re having a bit of trouble with the scratch and flip interface—for example, if the option to actually do the scratching and flipping isn’t available—that can make the user experience a little bit less exciting.
Never fear! Like all websites and interfaces, troubles happen from time to time, and this one is, zappily, very much fixable.
⚡️Why Is The Scratch/Flip Interface Broken?
There are a couple of reasons that this sort of problem might occur.
From our experience with these kinds of games, we’ve seen that it usually happens when customers buy a large volume of tickets at once.
While bulk-buying isn’t a problem in and of itself, it does sometimes cause a little bit of lag on the back end of your site.
Remember, the scratch and flip features are just fun graphics which reveal whether or not your player has won a prize; they don’t actually determine who the winners are. Therefore, it works the same as a ‘reveal winner’ button, and those only appear at the end of a game.
So, when your customers buy in bulk, your site takes a bit longer to process the tickets that have been sold. It thinks the game is still in progress, and it won’t show the ‘Reveal’ button until the game is over.
If your customers swear that they didn’t buy that many tickets, but still can’t access the joys of scratching and flipping their cards, then it’s probably option number two:
It happens when the system goes out of sync; that means that the coding of your sitethinks that you’re still processing wins, even though you’re not.
Because the game is, in theory, still in progress, it won’t show the ‘reveal’ button.
So, what can you do?

The problem is, then, because the site is catching up with the purchase. It thinks the game is in progress, when the player knows it’s finished.
So, if your players encounter this issue when bulk-buying tickets, advise them to refresh the page.
When they do this, the site will catch up on the back-end of things, and the scratch and flip options should be revealed, ready for your players to enjoy.
If, however, they encounter the issue with only a few tickets in their basket, and the problem doesn’t right itself upon the page being refreshed, it might be that it’s a problem with the coding. If this is the case, speak to Zap’s friendly team of developers.
