Zap's New Theme: How To Edit Your Hero Image
There are a few key differences between the new and old Zap Competitions theme. One of these is where you edit the Hero Image on your homepage. You might remember that traditionally, you’d have to access the customiser to do this, but this is different now.
But, fear not! We’re here to help you find it. Just keep reading.
⚡ ️What's a Hero Image?
A Hero Image is a design element that acts as a slideshow. It displays multiple images, videos, or other types of content in a single, rotating area of your site. It’s a good feature for when you want to highlight certain content or promote a competition.
⚡️Introduction to the New Theme
FYI, the new Zap Competitions theme refers to what the sites are built on.. So, how it’s built, how it’s laid out, and all that jazz!
To find the Hero Image Editor, you’ll have to:
Go to the back-end of your website
Click on ‘Pages’ in the left sidebar
Scroll and click ‘Home - Front Page’
You’ll see a layout similar to this one:
At the top of the page, you’ll notice these two options:

For the purposes of editing the Hero Image, we’ll be focusing on the Page Layout here. So, click on this — that’s where the party begins.
You can edit all sorts of blocks here, including the standard ones:
Carousel Block
Product Block
Icon Block
And — you guessed it! — you can also add more blocks by scrolling to the bottom of the page, and clicking ‘Add Block.’ There’s plenty of blocks to choose from, but as a competition business, adding a ‘Winners Block’ is a good idea.
The blocks can be edited by clicking on the wee pencil, but don't worry. You won’t have to do the editing yourself. If you'd like your Blocks edited, simply contact our Support teams. Sit back and relax, we’ll handle it for you. 😎
Anyhoo.
You see the ‘Carousel Block’? It goes by various names, like ‘Hero Carousel’ or ‘Hero Image’, or something similar. You’ll find it easily; it usually hangs out at the top of the page (as depicted above). This block, you’re fine to edit yourself, but of course, don’t hesitate to reach out if you need help.
You enter the editing screen of the Carousel block by clicking on the little pencil again. This is where that quick click will take you:
The editing process is the same as it used to be on the customiser. You can add:
Your image
A subtitle
Content, e.g, the competition description
Link to the competition
Button text
You can also add slides. In the Hero Image Editor, scroll to the bottom and click ‘Add Slide.’ You’ll be asked to fill out some information (i.e. Background Image Desktop/Mobile, subtitle, title, content, etc.), and voilà!
As you can see, it’s very similar to the customiser overall. The only difference is where to find the Editor.
